Behold

And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them.
They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage.
Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid . . .”
Matthew 28:9-10

Jesus meets them on their way, just as He meets all of us on our way. To work, to our homes, to the hospital, to the cemetery. He meets us on our way to temptation and sin. He meets us on the lonely road back from sin. He meets us on the road to hell as well as heaven. He meets us where we are and offers to walk with us. He meets us on our way delivering sad news and news of the greatest joy. He comforts us and increases our joy. He never leaves us alone.

Embrace His feet. Fall on your knees. Prostrate yourself before the manifestation of the living God. He was dead and now He is alive. Yes, He is God. How is it He Himself conquered death. Fall on your knees before His presence always for His magnificence, His glory is overwhelming. Never before has man looked on God except when He ordained it to be so. Christ has ordained it to be so in Him always. God has walked among us and we have lived. Don’t be afraid, He tells us. We no longer have to be afraid. He is the God who walks with us. Yes, adore Him, yes, worship Him. But fear not! He is our God and our brother, friend, and companion on the way. He will bear us up when we are too tired to go on. And He will celebrate with us when our news is joyful. Trust Him. Don’t be afraid of your past. Don’t be afraid of your future. Nothing can touch you anymore. You have protection in Jesus. Don’t be afraid of what others say. Don’t be afraid of losing everything - money, possessions, family, life. Don’t be afraid to die - it’s no longer the final word. Jesus has conquered it. Behold! He is with us! Behold! He will be with us on the rocky way! Behold! He will tell us the way and, even as He walks with us, will be there to greet us! Kiss His holy feet. Let Him know you love Him and know that He loves you even more. Behold! The wounds in His hands, the very feet you kiss. This is He. It’s true - He is risen, here to live in memory and imagination, to live in body and spirit, soul and divinity, to live among us and never to leave us. Our Lord and our God.
